Gas leak secured in Wescott neighborhood


NORTH CHARLESTON S.C.(WCBD)  — Crews with South Carolina Electric and Gas have secured a gas leak in North Charleston.

Officials say at 7:29 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, the North Charleston Fire Department responded to a gas leak at the Farms at Wescott in North Charleston.

Residents reported an odd smell in their homes, according to Fire Marshal Cindy Killette.

A spokesman for SCE&G confirms said a gas line was damaged by a construction crew.

A spokesperson for Dorchester School District 2 says the situation did not affect classes at Fort Dorchester High School or Joseph Pye Elementary.
