High marks, lower grades for some Lowcountry restaurants

Clean Eatz in Mount Pleasant and Chihuahua Supermarket in North Charleston got high marks on their inspection reports, but inspectors still lowered their grades.

Clean Eatz is down to a “B” after a follow-up inspection last week. However, inspectors scored them out at 87 percent.

  • The DHEC inspector observed an employee with a half-eaten meal on the prep table. The report says the employee was actively chewing and drinking.
  • An employee spotted walking into the kitchen from outside and working with food without washing their hands first.
  • A consecutive violation for not having a door for the room on the outdoor patio where the upright coolers are located.

Chihuahua Supermarket in North Charleston crushed the inspection report…scored a 98 percent.

The one violation was enough to bust their grade to a “B”.

That lone infraction is a “repeat violation” for not being able to provide a food protection manager certificate.
