How to celebrate Veterans Day in the Low Country


Friday the country honors active-duty military and veterans. Here are some ways celebrate in Charleston and Georgetown counties.Military Magnet Academy

  • Veterans Day Celebration to honor all the veterans in the community at 10:00 A.M.
  • The event will take place at 2950 Cramer Ave. in North Charleston.
  • Parents and students interested in the event are encouraged to attend

North Charleston

  • The annual Veterans Day tribute will be held from 10:30 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Park Circle.
  • Featured speaker will be retired US Army Captain and Medal of Honor recipient Florent Groberg.
  • All veterans in attendance will receive a commemorative coin.
  • There will be a story swap from 9:30 A.M.- 10:30 A.M.
  • Lunch for attendees will be provided after the ceremony, accompanied by the Charleston county School of the Arts Jazz Band.


  • Veterans Day Parade hosted by the Georgetown Post of the American Legion down Front St. at 4 P.M.
  • This will include the unveiling of the  90-foot long granite memorial monument/outdoor museum.
  • Participants should meet in the East Bay Park by 3:30 P.M.

College of Charleston

  • Veterans Day celebration to honor veterans current students,faulty, and staff at The College.
  • The event will be held at 5 P.M. in the Cistern Yard.
  • Mayor John Tecklenburg will be the keynote speaker and will be followed by a presentation of a military color guard.
  • The public is welcome to join.


  • A discussion with Karen Vaughn, mother of Gold Star recipient Aaron Vaughn, will be hosted by the Citadel Republican Society.
  • The event will be held in Buyer Auditorium at Mark Clark Hall at 12 P.M.

Patriots Point

  • Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will hold free admission to veterans Friday November 11 and Saturday November 12.
  • Only veterans will receive free admission and normal parking rates will apply.

Olive Garden

  • A free entree from a special menu to active-duty military and veterans.

LongHorn Steakhouse

  • Free appetizer or dessert for anyone who has proof of military service.
  • Guests dining with active-duty military and veterans will also receive a 10% discount.

Sticky Fingers

  • Veterans and active-duty military will recieve a free pooled pork sandwich, cole slaw, and baked beans.
  • The ribhouse will also be serving complimentary lunch to veterans at Mount Pleasant Chevy from 11 A.M. – 3 P.M.
