RESTAURANT REPORT CARD: Charleston Japanese restaurants receive C, B grades

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) -- The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control inspectors visited restaurants all over the Lowcountry this week to assign a health grade.

Ichibon Steak House in Charleston received a C-grade July 24.

Some of the violations include:

-Cutting boards were covered with grooves and black substance.

-Hot foods weren't kept warm enough.

-Cold foods, like raw beef, were left out on counter and not kept cold enough.

-Improper thawing methods for raw chicken and duck.

-Buckets of noodles and broth, and onions were stored on the floor.

-Equipment was stored unclean.

-Shelving, pipes, and floors were covered in grease and old food.

A follow-up inspection should happen by August 3.

Tokyo Sushi Hibachi received a B-grade July 23.

-Some of the cold foods weren't kept cold enough.

-There was no date marking system for ready to eat foods, including sushi and eggs.

-Foods were thawing improperly.

-Foods were also stored on the floor.

A follow-up inspection should happen by July 26.

UPDATES: Bert’s Market, Eli’s Table, and Poblano’s Mexican Cuisine all have A-grades after previously receiving B-grades.
