CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man was arrested early Wednesday after attempting to carjack two people and confronting a family with a gun at their home in West Ashley.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department (CPD) responded to allegations that a man attempted to rob two people of their cars while at Time to Shine Car Wash off Savannah Highway around 7:00 a.m., according to Sgt. Elisabeth Wolfsen with CPD.
The man struck one of the two individuals with a gun – it is unclear what, if any, injuries that person received; however, both people were able to get away.
Police said the man then walked across the car wash parking lot and entered a home on North Dallerton Circle in West Ashley.
A spokesman for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Andrew Knapp, said the man entered the home after confronting a juvenile resident with a gun.
The residents – two adults and four children – initially retreated before the parents confronted the man and engaged in a struggle.
“The father forced the man to drop the gun, which the mother took outside with the children. The father forced the man into a room and also went outside,” said Knapp.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including both CPD and CCSO, responded to the home. The man surrendered shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Knapp said the father was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The suspect was taken to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
CCSO arrested the man, identified as Deangelo Brown (28) on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and battery, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
