1 dead after car strikes pedestrian on Savannah Highway early Tuesday

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened over night.

Authorities say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday just before 1:00 a.m. on Savannah Highway.

The surrounding roadway was shut down for several hours as crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene near Savage Road.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as William Artis (58) of Greenville. The cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.
