ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) – Two men are in custody in the after deputies found a man and a woman bound with rope and duct tape inside a home on St. Helena Island.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), around 8:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to an open 911 line at the house on Chaplin Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies heard “what appeared to be a violent confrontation inside of the home.” They made entry and found two individuals tied up — one with serious injuries.
Deputies searched the home and found two men, the homeowner Justin Granet, 41, and his guest, Don Bliss, 41 of Beaufort.
EMS was called to the scene to treat the man for his injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital. BCSO said based on the severity of his injuries, he was transported to another hospital.
His condition is not known at this time.
Investigators arrived to interview Granet and Bliss as a search warrant was obtained to search the home.
Both of the men admitted to binding the man and woman and beating the man. BCSO says Bliss struck and injured the man with a blunt object.
During the search of Granet’s home, investigators recovered the object believed to have been used in the assault. Two firearms and four pounds of marijuana were also seized.
Bliss was arrested and charged with Kidnapping, Assault and Battery 1st Degree, and Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime. Granet was also taken into custody on Kidnapping and Assault and Battery 1st Degree.
BCSO says the incident remains under investigation. Additional charges may result.
