2 people struck by lightning on the Isle of Palms

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD)–  Isle of Palms officialsconfirm two people were struck by lightning while in the water this afternoon.

Fire Chief Ann Graham says one woman was pulled out of the water in cardiac arrest. Bystanders allegedly initiated CPR before EMS crews arrived. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Officials say a man lost consciousness for a brief period of time before being taken to the hospital in stable condition. 

A child who was in close proximity to the victims when they were struck by lightning was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated. 

According dispatch, Isle of Palms Police Department responded to a call for ‘possible electrocution.’ 

Officials say the incident happened near the beach access on 21st avenue. Fire crews and EMS were also on scene. 

Charleston County Dispatch received the call at 3 p.m.
