CCC Boot Drive

Charleston, S.C. (WCBD)- Today marks the first day of the 32nd annual Boot Drive for the Carolina Children’s Charity!

There are 14 different fire departments stretched from Mount Pleasant to Moncks Corner, all looking for donations. Last year, volunteers were able to collect $144,000 and you can help contribute by dropping money right into firefighter’s boots.

The Carolina Children Charity was created in 1987 in an effort to meet the needs of local children struggling with diseases and birth defects. The charity has no state or national affiliation and receives no government grants or reimbursement for services. It relies solely on the generosity of the community in its fundraising efforts.

Mount Pleasant Firefighter Eric Carpenter says, “If you feel that your donation isn’t beneficial because it’s not a large amount, every little bit helps us. Whether it’s a pocket full of charge or 20 dollars or more, every bit helps for us”.

Captain Paul Henthorne with Dorchester County Fire Department says he appreciates that all the money raised here, stays here, “Oh that’s the best thing. People of the community are contributing it and they expect to see it work. So my having it stay here and not go out of the area they can see it first hand at any time”.

Firefighters will be collecting donations in Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley and Charleston counties until March 24th.
