5K run benefits turtles in the Lowcountry

Local News

ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCBD) – Lace up those running shoes! The South Carolina Aquarium’s Turtle Trek is coming up on Saturday, September 29th.

The 5K run takes place just before sunset on the beach front on the Isle of Palms. Plus, there’s plenty to do before and after the run.

Packet pick up starts at 3:30 at the Isle of Palms County Park. From 4 PM to 5 PM, there is a beach sweep to help keep the area clean for all the critters, including turtles, that call the beach home. The kids fun run starts at 5 PM and the 5K starts at 5:30 PM. After the run, head over to the Windjammer for the after-party and awards presentation.

Proceeds from the Turtle Trek support the Sea Turtle Care Centerâ„¢ and the Aquarium’s conservation initiatives. To date, they rehabilitated and released more than 250 sea turtles back into their natural habitats.

The Turtle Trek has sold out in previous years so make sure you get registered early by visiting: https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/IsleOfPalms/SCAquarium5K
