CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Check out how different downtown Charleston looked 61 years ago.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation shared the picture on Facebook.

The black and white photo shows an aerial view of Spring St. and Cannon St. near the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on August 5, 1958.

The picture from Google Maps shows the same area Today. You can see the two roads leading to the Ashley River Bridges (U.S. 17) and the James Island Expressway (S.C. 30).

According SCDOT, the expressway opened to the public in September 1993.
