Be A Mentor for a local child this school year

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Be A Mentor is a local nonprofit organization which pairs caring adults with children in elementary, middle, and high schools.

The adults spend one hour per week with the children providing support, encouragement, and friendship. The children involved from the program could be from a single parent home, struggling in school, lacking individual attention, or economically disadvantaged. Being paired with a mentor helps to give the children character, confidence, and leadership skills to be successful.

Be A Mentor says there is currently a waiting list of children who want to join the program and they need 100 new mentors heading into the upcomign school year. To learn more about Be A Mentor, attend their recruitment event at Bay Street Biergarten (549 East Bay Street) on Tuesday, August 7th from 5-7 PM.
