MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Two workers suffered burns at a chemical plant in Moncks Corner on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 9:20 a.m. at Dak Americas off Cypress Gardens Road.

Officials say two people received chemical burns while performing routine work at the plant.

The two employees were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment – one by helicopter, the other by ambulance.

Pimlico Fire Department, Goose Creek Rural, Goose Creek City, Moncks Corner and Whitesville Fire Departments, along with Berkeley County EMS responded to the scene.

“Two patients were transported to MUSC Burn Center one via air and one by ambulance through Berkeley county EMS and care flight,” said Chief Kevin Carter with Pimlico Fire Dept.

John Saxon, plant manager for DAK Americas, said the two employees were awake and alert when they left the plant for the hospital.
