Berkeley Co. Councilman makes comments about new attendance lines

Berkeley County News

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Berkeley County Councilman Tommy Newell was offended by comments he saw from parents whose kids will likely be moved to Stratford High School due to redrawing of attendance lines by the Berkeley County School District.

Newell was clearly highly irritated by comments directed towards Stratford High School.

The councilman, who graduated from Stratford High School, made some comments of his own on Facebook, which several people believe were inappropriate.

“I’m reading a lot of negative comments about the attendance line changing. I read where the education a child receives at Cane Bay is much better than one a child receives at Stratford… Are you stupid or just ate up with dumb and can’t help being a moron?”

His remarks quickly garnered more than 100 comments in response. Some suggested voters should remember the attendance line issue during the next election.

Newell continued: “As far is threatening/promising to make the attendance line an issue at the next election, by all means, be petty… I along with my colleagues on the school board welcome any challengers.”

Count on 2 tried to get an on-camera interview with Newell, but his work his work schedule would not allow that this afternoon.
