BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is thanking members of the community who donated towards first-aid kits for their K-9 units.

A few weeks ago, the department wrote a post on social media looking for sponsors so that they could obtain first-aid kits from “We Ride to Provide” for two of their K-9 teams.

The organization is a non-profit that donates first-aid kits to K-9s and their handlers.

That same day, they say an “amazing woman” stepped up and donated towards both of the kits.

“We are always astonished with how much support we receive from our community,” said department spokesperson, Carli Drayton.

“We Ride to Provide” has delivered more than 1,300 kits to officers across the United States and in several other countries, according to Drayton.

Recently, two deputy handlers received their kits which contained Peroxide, Toxibwashclothsoths, eye patches, ice packs, wet wipes, a muzzle, blood absorption tools, vet wraps, alcohol, a window popper/seat belt cutter, eye wash, medication for allergic reactions, syringes, wound “wash, antibiotic ointment, a thermometer, stretch cause and a “where is my K-9” sticker.

“We are so grateful to Ms. Tawnie Kirven for supporting the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office,” said Drayton. “K-9 Dixie and Fox send their love.

Drayton says “We Ride to Provide” is the only organization that hosts an annual memorial for K-9s killed in the line of duty.
