Deputies: Man arrested for using counterfeit money during online transactions

BERKELEY COUNTY, (WCBD) – Deputies in Berkeley County are reminding residents to be careful while selling items through online platforms such as ‘Let-Go’ or ‘Offer-Up’.

They say Samuel Eric Forte, 32, has been purchasing items off these platforms with counterfeit money.

Forte has been known to give the seller the counterfeit money and then drives off before the victim notices.

He was apprehended by deputies on January 31st. Once in custody, he was in possession of $720.00 in fake money.

Deputies attempted to recover some of the items and return them to the victims.

Forte is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center on five charges of forgery and five charges for breach of trust.

He is still being held on a $100,000 bond.
