MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Disagreements continue at the Statehouse over how to move forward with the issue of Santee Cooper.
The budget conference committee was expected to meet on Monday morning around 10 o’clock. That did not happen—and the topic of Santee Cooper was not on the floor of the Statehouse or Senate.
Monday afternoon, legislators did meet to discuss several disagreements. State Senator Larry Grooms said there are basically nine points of disagreement.
Three of those are unresolved, but resolving another three may cause disagreements on previously agreed-upon items. I don’t have an exact list of what those specific issues are at this point. This is a very fluid story and negotiations continue.
However, legislators have just days to come together with an agreement. They are already in a special session to deal with issues like Santee Cooper, and that special session ends Thursday.
