Judge denies bond for suspect in deadly Goose Creek road rage shooting

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The man charged with murder after a shooting that began as a road rage incident on Highway 52 went through bond court Wednesday.

Family members of the man who died during the shooting, Rodney Middleton, were in the courtroom as the suspect, Kerrington Holmes faced the judge.

The judge explained to Holmes that he was facing a charge of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The charges come after investigators say he merged onto Highway 52 at Central Avenue in Goose Creek – Holmes in a sedan and Middleton in a tractor-trailer – and began arguing on the side of the road.

Deputies believe Holmes shot Middleton and then drove off.

Middleton’s wife spoke to the judge in court. “He put good out into the world,” she said, “He worked his fingers to the bones for his family and he did not deserve this.”

She asked the court to keep Holmes locked up. The judge ultimately denied Holmes bond on both charges.

A bond court judge cannot offer bond on a murder charge. A circuit court judge will have to look at the case at a later date.
