BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – An educator from the Lowcountry will compete on Jeopardy!

Alana “Loni” Lewis, who is a media specialist at Sangaree Middle School, will appear on the hit game show Wednesday night.

Lewis will compete against the previous night’s winner, Mattea Roach.

Lewis said that she has wanted to be on Jeopardy! for years and has taken the test multiple times. Once she got the callback, it was a whirlwind trip out to California to film the show.

Preparation was easy for Lewis, who reads around 200 books a year. She said that the only unusual thing she did ahead of competing was borrow a social studies book from one of her seventh graders to brush up on her geography.

While she wasn’t there long — she caught a redeye back and was in school the next morning — she said the experience was unforgettable. Host Ken Jennings was warm and welcoming, according to Lewis, and brought many elements of longtime host Alex Trebek to the show.

In honor of her episode airing Wednesday, Lewis played a round of Jeopardy! with her students. She plans to watch the episode with family and friends.

The episode will air only on News 2 at 7:30 p.m.
