New data shows decrease in property crime across Goose Creek

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCBD) – New numbers from the City of Goose Creek Police Department show a decrease in crimes against property as well as an increase in traffic tickets.

The new data shows some dramatic decreases and increases. It looks like traffic enforcement is almost double what it has been in the past.

In fact, traffic stops last year at this point totaled 1,480. This year, 2,593. That’s a 75% increase.

The number of citations so far this year in Goose Creek is a 99.8% increase over this time last year. Last year 1,243 citations were written. So far this year, the number is 2,483.

Warnings went from 683 to 1,181, a 72.9% increase.

The property crimes are slightly less dramatic, but most of the numbers look much better than last year.

Vehicle thefts are down 30% while petit/grand larceny is down 50%.

Shoplifting down 61% and vandalism dropped 26%.

Two areas, though, are showing an increase: burglaries are up 11% and thefts from vehicles are up by 15%.

These numbers will be presented to city council at Tuesday night’s meeting as part of their monthly report. The meeting begins at 7 o’clock at city hall.
