Police: Woman apprehended after traffic stop turns into drug bust

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the Ladson area on Saturday when he noticed a vehicle commit a traffic violation.

The vehicle was a Volkswagen sedan, but when he ran the vehicle’s license plate it came back to an Audi, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

During initial contact with the driver, who was identified as 33-year-old Brittany Jessica Johnson, the Deputy observed in plain sight a firearm under Johnson’s seat.

Authorities stated that Johnson was detained and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, the Deputy located a Ruger handgun with an altered serial number, eleven small baggies that contained a substance presumed to be methamphetamine and one bag of a green-like material presumed to be marijuana.

Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. She is being charged with Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking Meth, and several weapons violations. 

Authorities added that she has been arrested five times since 2011. Her previous arrest includes Fraud charges, Manufacturing Meth, Trafficking Meth, several Forgery charges, Criminal Conspiracy and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Meth.
