BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – A victim has been identified in a fatal hit-and-run collision that happened Thursday evening in Berkeley County.
According to a spokesman for the Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 9:35 pm Thursday along US 17A near Mazyck Road just outside of Jamestown.
A pedestrian, who has been identified by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office as 63-year-old Alton Hawkins, was hit and killed by an unknown driver. Details about the vehicle are unknown.
Coroner George Oliver said Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Hawkins was walking on 17A when the driver, who was heading north, hit him and fled from scene.
Trooper Matt Southern with Highway Patrol said officials are looking for a 1997-2006 BMW 3 series sedan, blue-gray in color, which may be a two-door model.
Southern said the vehicle should have damage to the right front area. The image below is an example of the vehicle troopers are searching for.
