GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – A brand new Checkers restaurant has been anticipated for a couple of years now in Goose Creek. Although it looks like it’s ready to open, it’s been sitting empty for some time.
Several people in the Goose Creek area have been talking about the fast food restaurant and are trying to figure out why the restaurant has not opened.
For months people on social media have been wondering what is happening. Close to two years ago, a local newspaper was reporting the Checker’s would be opening.
It’s been built, but now even the ‘opening soon’ sign out front is starting to fall down and weeds are growing everywhere. It’s a stark contrast to the other restaurant next door.
People even drive up trying to see if there is any information about when it might open.
“On Facebook, it says opening soon. Opening soon? when is soon,” asked Joe Mabe, who lives down the street. “I know I want answers, I know the public wants answers, give us some answers.”
In a search for answers, Count on 2’s Raymond Owens started with a phone number that was posted on the property. A district manager said he couldn’t tell him anything and suggested a call to the corporate office.
The corporate office said to call their media line. Someone there said they would be emailing information, but they have not done so at this time.
We also talked to a county and city spokesperson and a member of county council to find out if anybody knows why the Checkers is not yet open.
The question, though, remains unanswered. We’ll continue looking into the vacant Checkers and will bring you the latest as we learn more.
