NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A man has been charged with attempted murder and failure to stop for blue lights after he ran from an attempted traffic stop in the Deer Park community Tuesday.

While conducting traffic enforcement, an officer driving a motorcycle unit caught Jonathan Colby Adkins speeding on Shadow Drive.

The officer attempted a traffic stop, but Adkins drove away. The suspect came to an abrupt stop on Salamander Road and put his vehicle into reverse, striking the officer and rendered the motorcycle inoperable.

An affidavit shows Adkin then took off again and later crashed his vehicle in a ditch along Salamander Road.

Adkins took off in the direction of Otranto Road. K-9 units eventually tracked him down inside an unknown home. The homeowner, who did not know Adkins, told police he was hiding in a bathroom.

He eventually surrendered and was transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.

A judge just gave him a $150,000 bond. He has not yet posted the money.
