CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – It’s estimated that over 15 million people were registered, but didn’t vote in 2016 because of transportation issues.
So this Election Day, ride-sharing apps are making it more affordable to get to the polls while CARTA is offering free shuttle service for voters.
Voters across Charleston County who need help getting the polls can catch a ride with CARTA. All routes will be free-of-charge in honor of Election Day.
“We want all eligible voters in the Lowcountry to have access to one of our country’s fundamental rights, without having to overcome mobility or economic barriers,” said CARTA board of directors chairman Mike Seekings.
You can find a list of routes and scheduled by visiting ridecarta.com.
Meanwhile, Lyft is providing 50-percent off or up to $5.00-off rides on Election Day. The ride-share company is also offering free rides to undeserved communities.
Consumers can get a discount code by entering their zip code on Lyft’s partner website: Buzzfeed.
Uber is offering $10-off a single ride to the polls on the lowest cost Uber option available in your city.
Get the discount by entering the code “Vote2018” in the latest version of the Uber app.
