Shooting in the Walgreens parking lot off Savannah Highway turns fatal, deputies say

UPDATE 7/14/20: The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Chad Westbury, a 39-year-old male from Johns Island.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Sunday evening near Johns Island.

According to Capt. Roger Antonio with CCSO, deputies responded to the area of Savannah Highway and Main Road in reference to a shooting that occurred.

Capt. Antonio said an individual had been shot but did not provide any further details about the incident.

Meanwhile, deputies responded to a residence off Hilton Drive just after 9:00 p.m. for a gunshot victim.

Once at the scene, an unresponsive male was located on the ground near a vehicle.

Deputies determined the victim was shot during an altercation in the parking lot of the Walgreens on Savannah Highway.

Capt. Antonio said the victim died from injuries sustained in the shooting. A suspect has not been taken into custody at this time.

The shooting remains under investigation. Count on us for the latest.
