Autopsy set for victim of fatal crash with unmarked sheriff’s vehicle

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – An autopsy is scheduled today for the woman killed in a wreck with an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle.

Authorities say 32-year-old Megan Eichman turned in front of that cruiser Sunday night on James Island.

Leading up to the crash, Master Deputy Austin Rissanen was responding to a call for assistance from another deputy sheriff who was involved in a foot chase.

Rissanen, who has been with the Charleston Police Department since 2013, was placed on administrative leave with pay until the sheriff’s office completes an internal investigation.

State Constable William Louis Kitchener IV was also in the vehicle with Rissanen during that fatal crash.

Kitchener was still under hospital care as of Tuesday morning.
