CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – A male student from Baptist Hill High School has been charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to an arrest warrant, the child victim – whose name and age have been withheld – reported that an older student followed her into the woman’s bathroom on February 19th and sexually assaulted her.

A witness reportedly told authorities she walked into the bathroom as the assault was happening.

School surveillance also shows the suspect, identified as Jamari Lavon Simmons, follow the child victim into the woman’s bathroom prior to the reported incident.

After reporting the assault to school staff, the victim was taken to MUSC where a sexual assault exam was performed. During an interview, the child told police the sexual act was not consensual.

In a statement to Count on 2, the Charleston County School District said they are aware of the situation and the severity of the charge that student now faces.

“School administrators immediately notified the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and CCSD staff once they were informed of the incident. School and district personnel have and will continue to work with law enforcement and community partners through the entire process.”
