MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) Crews were dispatched to reports of a burned van in Mount Pleasant early Friday morning.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. off Labor Camp Road.

Upon arrival, officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department found a 1986 Chevy van that had been burned out and believed the fire to be suspicious.

A witness was reportedly walking home from work when he saw the van on fire and a man running away from the scene.

Neighbors say several homeless people lived in the van. The owner declined to prosecute anyone for the fire.

Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department, who initially responded to the scene and extinguished the flames, said the van was a total loss.
