Neighbors reported hearing explosions before housefire in Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews with the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District on Thursday responded to a housefire at 1789 Highway 41.

According to Charleston County dispatch, the call came in shortly before 9:20 p.m.

By the time crews arrived on scene, heavy fire had already breached the roof of the home.

AMFD crews said that there were four people inside the house, but everyone made it out safely after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

Crews battled the flames for about 30 minutes before they were able to get the fire under control.

Neighbors reported hearing several explosions that they say sounded like fireworks before the fire started.

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston County EMS, and Mount Pleasant Fire Department were on scene as well.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
