CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The 2000 block of Meeting Street Road is closed after an ongoing structure fire was reported, causing a roadway closure, according to officials.
Dense smoke from the fire can be seen coming from the roadway close to trees and a structure – the fire was reported at 11:00 A.M.
The occupant of the home reported loud noises before the home began to fill with smoke, evacuated and called 911.
Emergency personnel arrived to the scene within four minutes of dispatch, and reported heavy smoke venting from a one-story, single family home.
Charleston Fire Department (CFD) says that crews worked quickly to control the flames and search the property.
Fire investigators from Charleston and North Charleston Fire Department responded to the scene to find the cause of the fire.
Investigators say that the fire began in an empty space between the first floor and attic – the specific cause is still under investigation.
The Red Cross was also contacted to provide the occupant with assistance.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
