NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – UPDATE: The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) released details about the heavy police presence on Norwood St. and Spruill Ave on Wednesday.

According to NCPD, officers were patrolling the area when they saw a man who “had active warrants with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.”

NCPD identified the man as Desmond Maurice Deas (28) of North Charleston.

Officers attempted to approach the Deas, but he fled into a residence. After several hours of trying to get him to come out, SWAT entered the residence and found Deas hiding in the attic.

Deas is now in custody. NCPD advised that his charges will be released at a later time.

Video from the area shows what appears to be a high powered rifle on top of a car pointed at a residence.
