SCDOT to reinstate lane reversals on Wando Bridge during summer repair work

Charleston County News

DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) Both sides of the Wando Bridge on I-526 will be shut down twice this summer so crews can perform repair work.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will reinstate lane reversals as crews work on the James B. Edwards bridge.

Officials say the work will take place over two weekends during which, lane reversals are expected to start after the evening rush on Fridays and will end early Monday morning before rush hour begins.

In March, SCDOT put a contract out for bids and later selected Freyssinet USA to handle the work which is estimated at $4 million.

SCDOT said the project will be paid for using a combination of state and federal funds.

During another four weekends, individual lanes on both sides of the Wando Bridge will be closed for ongoing repair work.

This all comes after a snapped cable was found a year ago and causing a three-week long closure and lane reversals.
