ANDREWS, S.C. (WCBD) – An Ashley Hall student was killed in a recreational vehicle accident over the weekend.

According to the Williamsburg County Deputy Coroner, three teens were riding in a side-by-side ATV Saturday when the vehicle they were riding on flipped. Sarah Klein, 15, passed away in the as a result of the accident.

Two other girls were transported to the hospital. One was airlifted while the other was transported by ambulance.

The teens were riding on an ATV on dirt roads in Andrews. Klein died at the scene.

Klein was the daughter of Michael Klein and Caroline Smoak Keller, Class of 1979, according to the Head of School, Jill Muti.

“I am writing now to assure you that we will make every effort to address that need by providing the opportunity for students to meet individually or in small groups with members of our counseling staff to express, and thereby perhaps alleviate, their sorrow. Administrators at Ashley Hall will continue to be vigilant in monitoring students’ reactions to this tragic event,” a letter to parents from Muti read.

The Coroner’s office stressed the importance of wearing seatbelts, when available. Investigators believe a seatbelt could have prevented the injuries.
