CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A wildfire is currently burning in the Francis Marion National Forest.
Officials say the memorial wildfire near Elmwood Campground McClellanville is at least 85% contained.
The fire is about 1,300 acres and not threatening any structures.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire that started on Sunday.
Keep in mind a red flag alert is in effect across South Carolina. Officials say the purpose of the alert is to discourage you from burning outdoors when weather conditions elevate the risk for wildfires.
“Some things you can do is make sure is the chains on your car’s trailer are secured properly because they can spark when they hit the ground make sure to always put your cigarette butts out properly,“ said Jacqueline Forsyth with Project Forester.
