Charleston GOP hosts Black History Month event

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Senator Tim Scott will attend an annual banquet at the Citadel Alumni Center in celebration of Black History Month.

The event aims to recognize local African-Americans who have worked their way up but always came back to help their community.

More than 300 people are expected to attend the event to honor and celebrate the lives of African-Americans.

During Friday night’s event, five local African-American leaders who have left their mark on society will be honored.

Some of those being the CCSD board chairman, Eric Mack and Art Gilliard.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and Mother Emanuel pastor Eric Manning will be guest speakers.

Lt. Governor Pamela Evette will also be in attendance.

The event kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
