Sunday night, the Charleston Police Department issued an alert for a man wanted in connection to a downtown assault.
Christopher Lamar Price, 30, faces a charge of aggravated assault.
Police say the incident happened around 2 a.m. on August 19 in the area of 28 Ann Street.
Records show that is the same time and location where a transgender woman was knocked unconscious after being confronted about her gender.
The Alliance for Full Acceptance, a social justice organization based in Charleston, has called the incident a hate crime.
Anyone with information about Price’s whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-111.
AFFA plans to hold a town hall Tuesday with representatives of the Police Department.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center, located at 265 Fishburne Street.
