Chase, crash shuts down part of Rivers avenue

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Westbound lanes of Rivers Avenue at Mabelline Road was temporarily closed Thursday night following a three-vehicle wreck.

The closure followed a pursuit that started in Berkeley County and resulted in a crash just after 8:00 p.m.

Four people were transported to the hospital due to injuries from the crash.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Randy Thompson was traveling west on Rivers Avenue in a 2013 Dodge when he went through the intersection near Mabelline Road and stuck the driver in a Suburban.

Thompson who was not wearing a seatbelt, and a passenger, 27-year-old Jenna Littlefield, was taken to Trident Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, 60-year-old Kenneth Irick, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Trident Hospital. The vehicle he was driving a 2008 Chevy Suburban hit a third vehicle in the collision.

Franklin Benjamin, 52, suffered minor injuries when his Toyota pickup was struck by Irick’s vehicle.

We have reached out to authorities for more information about the chase that led to the crash.

As of now, no arrests have been made. The incident is under investigation.
