Citadel dealing with overcrowding following larger-than-expected incoming class

Local News

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)— Almost 100 Citadel cadets are being housed outside of the barracks due to overcrowding issues.

The military college has two students staying in a clock tower, several others in a trailer near an athletic field, and 77 commuting from off campus.

Officials say they have had to place cadets elsewhere because of a larger than expected incoming class. They also  say the college relies on past attrition averages but this year their predictions came up short. The freshman class now has 837 cadets when the school expected 813 incoming cadets.

Affected students have received a discount on their tuition.
