JOHNS ISLAND, S.C (WCBD) – A development dilemma on johns island has the City of Charleston’s Mayor John Tecklenburg asking for a building moratorium.

There has been rapid growth on Johns Island.

The population in the area annexed by the city has doubled since the 2010 census. The problem their infrastructure hasn’t adjusted.

That’s why city leaders are calling for a six-month moratorium on building projects. Projects that have already received final approval will be able to move forward with builders but some developers still worry a decision like this will bring losses.

The moratorium would affect about two thousand units.

Council will vote on the moratorium on Tuesday, February 13. It is expected to be a close a vote.
