Authorities rescue occupants from entrapment after police pursuit in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Emergency crews responded to a single car motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Quail Drive and Mount Carmel Road on Sunday morning.

Officials stated that a small silver Chevy Impala was attempting to elude Walterboro Police Officers as it traveled north on Mount Carmel Road at a high rate of speed. The Impala made a turn on to Quail Drive and lost control and overturned in a ditch while trapping both occupants.

Walterboro Police and Sheriff Deputies were on the scene immediately following the crash.

Officers were able to free the female occupant and assist her from the car. Officials stated that she suffered non-life threatening multiple traumatic injuries. Additional emergency crews were tied up with another entrapment in Green Pond when the incident occurred.

Crews responded from Bells Crossroads to handle the incident.

The male driver was trapped in the vehicle and complained about several injuries, according to officials. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the injured man in the car, until other crews, were able to free him. 

Officials stated that he was extricated with full spinal precautions and that both patients were transported emergent with additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board to assist with their care.

Authorities transported the victims to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston. 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
