COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies in Colleton County sprang into action Friday afternoon after receiving a call about an elderly man with dementia who had wandered away from his home.
The caller told dispatchers the elderly man had been missing for about 45 minutes.
Sheriff Strickland and deputies in Colleton County immediately set up a perimeter once they arrived at the scene and began searching for the gentleman.
After searching for about 30 minutes, a local resident told deputies that they believed they spotted someone matching the description close by.
Deputies located the man in the woods not far from where they were and brought him to safety.
“Caring for our seniors is perhaps one of the greatest responsibilities we have,” said Sheriff Strickland. “Being able to care for them like they once cared for us is one of the highest honors.”
