CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway patrol is investigating a deadly collision involving an unmarked Charleston County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on James Island near the intersection of Folly and Camp roads.

At the time, a deputy was responding to help another deputy involved in a foot pursuit, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy collided with another vehicle that was trying to make a left turn.  The woman driving that vehicle did not survive.

The deputy and a State Constable riding in the Sheriff’s Office vehicle were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The victim has been identified as Megan Eichman, 32 and that an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, according to Deputy Coroner Michelle Gonzalez.

This investigation is ongoing.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol, which is handling the investigation, sent members of its Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team to the scene.  The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal investigation.
