CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A captain with the Charleston Police Department has been demoted after admitting to drinking and driving in a department-issued vehicle.

Charleston PD spokesman Charles Francis confirmed the news Wednesday afternoon.

According to Francis, Police Chief Luther Reynolds stated Captain Brian Ambrose had been demoted to sergeant after a city employee reported the drinking while driving incident which happened in February.

Ambrose was reportedly off-duty at the time.

An investigation revealed Ambrose violated department policies of conduct and was in violation of the department’s alcohol policy.

Ambrose was also given a cut in pay and will no longer be able to take home a city-issued vehicle.
