CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating a Monday morning shooting on Congress Street.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department (CPD) began investigating after 9-1-1 received calls regarding a disturbance involving gunfire on Congress Street between Dingle Street and Rutledge Avenue.

The responding officers secured the area and verified that no people or property was struck by gunfire, according to Sgt. Anthony Gibson, a spokesman for the department.

A suspect was apprehended and taken into custody without incident. That individual, who has not yet been identified, is being charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
