Crews thought they discovered a Civil War-era ordinance while digging swimming pool downtown… it was a wooden buoy

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A Civil War ordinance was discovered Wednesday by crews digging a swimming pool in downtown Charleston.

Charles Francis with the Charleston Police Department initially described that ordinance as a cannonball, but said the bomb team later determined it was only a wooden buoy.

A heavy police presence was seen on Ashely Avenue because of the discovery. No streets were closed.
