Crews working to put out a fire on James Island

Fire crews spent Monday afternoon working to put out a fire on James Island.

According to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch, James Island Fire Department and EMS were called came to a structure in the 1500 block of Grimball road extension at 1:15pm Monday.

James Island Fire Battalion Chief B. Smiley tells us the fire started in one of the apartments, then spread to 5 others.

While the cause is still under investigation, we’re told it was likely an electrical fire.

Luckily, there were no injuries and the Red Cross has been notified.
