Cyclist dead after being struck by both a pick up truck and garbage truck

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)– The Charleston Police Department is investigating an accident that left a cyclist dead Saturday morning. Police a say the pick-up truck struck a cyclist at around 5:20 a.m.

The pick-up truck was allegedly traveling north on Highway 7 at Sam Rittenberg Boulevard when he struck a cyclist, who was also traveling north on Highway 7.

The cyclist was thrown off the bicycle and into the southbound lane of Highway 7. He was then run over by a Republic Services garbage truck. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the cyclist was illegally in the roadway when he was struck by the pick-up truck.

No charges have been filed against either driver; the accident is under investigation.
