Deputies apprehend suspects after vehicle pursuit in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – While Deputies were patrolling the area of Wancy Circle, authorities saw a grey Mazda Tribute driving toward Tillman Branch Road with a headlight out. 

Authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee. The car that was operated by 23-year-old Khalil Shaeeb Howard, began to smoke heavily near State Road and eventually came to a stop after leaking coolant.  

Howard and the passenger, 22-year-old Imani Capri Thomas, were detained without further incident, according to officials. After they were detained deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. 

During the search deputies were able to find:

• A small clear plastic bag containing approximately 3.3 grams of a white powdery substance (field tested presumptive positive for cocaine)
• A small clear plastic bag containing approximately 3.3 grams of a white rock-like substance (field tested presumptive positive for cocaine)
• Another small clear plastic bag containing approximately 2.2 grams of a dark white powdery substance (field tested presumptive positive for heroin)
• A small clear plastic bag containing 1 gram of green plant-like material inside the glove box. 
• Four grams of green plant-like material inside the small compartment under the stereo. 
• A black 9mm Taraus with an extended black magazine inserted into the firearm containing 24 9mm bullets. 

Howard was arrested and charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Unlawful Carry of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Thomas was arrested and charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin.
