Deputies capture “armed and dangerous” man in Walterboro

Local News

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – After a 24-hour search, authorities in Colleton County say they have apprehended a man who was considered armed and dangerous.

Andrew Hyatt, who was wanted for burglaries and property crimes, ran from law enforcement near I-95 and exit 53.

His escape launched an hours-long search before he was located and arrested in the Walterboro area early Wednesday morning.

According to a spokesperson for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, Hyatt was captured in a wooded area located behind Cobb Road.

He reportedly tried to evade authorities once again, this time by running into the woods and scaling a fence with barbed wire at the top. This time, it didn’t work out in his favor.

Deputies say a Charleston County helicopter assisted in the search along with various agencies from around the area.

Hyatt is wanted out of multiple jurisdictions.
